Who Is Shaping the Future of Autos – Tech Firms or Automakers?

“The automobile is very different from a lot of electronics gear. It’s a heavy, fast-moving object that operates in public space and is dangerous,” PVMI Director John Paul MacDuffie said in a recent Wharton Business Daily interview about potential tech firm and automaker partnerships on tomorrow’s vehicles.

MacDuffie shared his perspective on manufacturing complexities, the structure of auto/tech collaboration, regulation, and privacy concerns.

Looking ahead, he said, future vehicles are likely to be “electric combined with autonomous, combined with connectivity,” noting that self-driving vehicles are “further off into the future.”
