As autonomous vehicles take to the road, officials are increasingly dealing with questions of safety and regulation. In partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Boston Consulting Group, Boston officials plan to begin testing self-driving cars by the end of 2016, a partnership that was borne out of the strong working relationship between the city and Massachusetts state officials, according to PVMI member John Moavenzadeh, member of the executive committee of the World Economic Forum. But before fully driverless vehicles are allowed on the streets, legislators must first clarify traffic laws surrounding their operation.
