Recent emissions scandals have taken their toll on the global auto industry. Amid more stringent regulations and oversight following Volkswagen’s cheating, Renault and Fiat Chrysler have recently faced allegations of violating clean-air regulations, which have sent their stock prices tumbling.
According to PVMI member Matthias Holweg, a management professor at Oxford University’s Said Business School, in the current environment, these scandals will precipitate increased pressure on manufacturers to meet environmental regulations and invest in clean vehicles, and “many more probes” into manufacturers’ compliance.
