Volkswagen reached a settlement with U.S. regulators over its violations of the Clean Air Act on April 21, 2016, but it is just the start of the company’s journey to rebuild its trust with the public.
Now that Volkswagen’s dreams of capturing market shares in the U.S. with diesel-powered vehicles are all but shattered, the company will have to rethink its growth strategy, says PVMI Director John Paul MacDuffie in Knowledge@Wharton. However, while the company may have lost consumers’ trust in the U.S., its international presence will help it recover, notes MacDuffie.
